The Project
Heir & Loom, an online retailer specialising in one-of-a-kind antique textiles such as vintage rugs and pillows, sought a brand identity that would showcase their carefully curated offerings. Each piece in their collection is a unique work of art, crafted using centuries-old techniques that reflect expert craftsmanship. The new brand needed to honor these artisanal traditions while incorporating a modern aesthetic to attract a design-savvy audience.
Challenges
The key challenge was to create a brand identity that balanced the rich history and heritage of Heir & Loom’s textiles with a contemporary appeal. The design had to convey the value of the products as both functional items and artistic heirlooms, while remaining approachable and relevant to a modern, style-conscious market. Additionally, the branding needed to emphasise the uniqueness of each piece, differentiating Heir & Loom in a competitive online retail landscape.
Design Approach
D&CO Studio developed a pure typographic brand identity, featuring an elegant serif typeface that conveys sophistication and timelessness. The typographic focus allows the intricate beauty of Heir & Loom’s textiles to take center stage, while the refined typography adds a touch of modernity.
The color palette—sage green, golden honey, beige, and charcoal grey—was carefully chosen to evoke warmth, elegance, and natural beauty, reflecting the earthy tones and craftsmanship of the antique pieces. Sage green and golden honey provide a subtle nod to the organic origins of the textiles, while beige and charcoal grey ensure a modern, understated foundation.
The overall design approach was minimal yet luxurious, with a focus on clean layouts and balanced proportions that reflect the meticulous curation of Heir & Loom’s collection.
Outcome
The resulting brand identity for Heir & Loom elegantly bridges the gap between tradition and modernity. The serif typography and sophisticated color palette convey a sense of timelessness while appealing to contemporary buyers.
This new visual system positions Heir & Loom as a premium destination for antique textiles, celebrating the artistry of their products and reinforcing their uniqueness in the marketplace. The brand now communicates its values effectively, appealing to a discerning audience who appreciate both heritage craftsmanship and modern design.
