Challenges
The primary challenge was to create a brand identity that captured the essence of Jugni—a balance between authentic Indian culture and contemporary appeal. The identity needed to be deeply rooted in Indian culinary traditions while also attracting a modern audience. The design had to communicate warmth, sophistication, and vibrancy, distinguishing Jugni from other Indian restaurants in Geelong. Additionally, the branding needed to be adaptable across digital platforms, restaurant signage, packaging, and marketing materials to ensure a cohesive experience.
Design Approach
The Jugni brand identity was developed with a thoughtful integration of cultural symbolism and modern aesthetics.
Brand Mark: At the heart of the identity is a carefully crafted logo featuring a tandoor pot, symbolising authentic Indian cuisine, from which a lotus flower emerges. The lotus represents spiritual enlightenment, beauty, prosperity, and the essence of life, reinforcing Jugni’s mission to offer an unforgettable Indian dining experience. This unique combination serves as a powerful narrative, visually conveying the blend of tradition and innovation that defines the restaurant.
Colour Scheme: A vibrant palette of pinks and oranges was chosen to reflect energy, warmth, and creativity, reminiscent of Indian festivals and cultural celebrations. These colours create an inviting and joyful ambiance. Complementing this vibrancy is a dark charcoal grey, adding sophistication, balance, and a contemporary edge. This contrast ensures that the restaurant brand identity maintains an elegant yet dynamic presence.
Typography: A customised, bold, and expressive typeface was selected to reflect Jugni’s adventurous spirit and modern appeal. The bold lettering conveys confidence and innovation, while its expressive, fluid structure mirrors the restaurant’s fusion cuisine and evolving menu. This typography enhances the brand’s distinctiveness and reinforces the theme of tradition meeting innovation.
