Client Brief
Rennick & Gaynor, a renowned Melbourne-based law firm, approached D&Co Studio to revamp their brand identity in celebration of their 100-year anniversary. Established in 1919, the firm has a rich legacy of providing high-quality, professional legal advice that is both personal and cost-effective. Their extensive services include Property Law & Conveyancing, Wills & Estates, Corporate & Commercial Law, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, and Compulsory Land Acquisition.
As part of their centennial celebration and ongoing growth, Rennick & Gaynor were also preparing to expand their operations by opening a new office in Geelong. They required a bold, modern identity that would not only honour their heritage but also appeal to a wider client base in both Melbourne and the Geelong region.
Challenges
The challenge was to create a brand identity that respected Rennick & Gaynor’s century-long history while positioning them as a forward-thinking and dynamic law firm. The design needed to exude confidence and professionalism, ensuring relevance in Melbourne’s competitive legal market while resonating with new clients in Geelong. Striking the right balance between heritage and innovation was essential to communicate their adaptability and expertise.
Design Approach
D&Co Studio crafted a purely typographical brand identity, featuring an elegant serif typeface, juxtaposed with a modern sans serif, to reflect the firm’s long-standing tradition and sophistication. This approach emphasised simplicity and clarity, projecting both confidence and accessibility.
The primary colour palette of bold red and charcoal grey was selected to symbolise strength, reliability, and passion. The red added a vibrant, confident edge to the design, while the charcoal provided a grounding sense of professionalism and authority. Together, these colours created a striking yet timeless aesthetic.
The minimalist approach was extended across all branding touch-points, ensuring a cohesive and professional visual identity that would resonate across Melbourne and Geelong. Special attention was given to materials and layouts to support the firm’s expansion plans, including flexible design elements to adapt to dual-office branding needs.

The reimagined brand identity elegantly bridges Rennick & Gaynor’s storied heritage with their aspirations for future growth. The refined serif typography and bold red-and-charcoal palette convey both tradition and innovation, reinforcing their reputation as a trusted and progressive legal partner.
This modernised identity positions Rennick & Gaynor as a leading law firm, ready to meet the needs of an expanding client base while celebrating their 100-year milestone.
